To start off the week we have some the greatest melodic tracks from the past week…
Cid Inc and Dmitry Molosh join forces on the ‘Impending Storm’ EP. Dutch maestro, Navar, provides the re-rub.
Both respected players of progressive scene, Cid Inc and Dmitry Molosh have enjoyed exciting careers. Producer, DJ and Mastering Engineer, Swedish powerhouse, Cid Inc has releases on a whos who of labels and has played at all the leading clubs and festivals. Equally, Belarusian pioneer Dmitry has been trailblazing for nearly a decade and continues to have a gig diary taking him around the world.
Opening with the title track, ‘Impending Storm’, the pairs unique influences find a perfect middle ground in subtle tribal drumwork. Gathering pace slowly over the first half with some nuanced layering, the track really fires off as the main break hits. With tension building throughout, the second half is trademark peak time.
Next up, ‘Coalition’ takes a deeper path. Twinkling arps and rising pads draw you in as the percussive underbelly becomes more pronounced. Proper journey prog, the sonic tale they unfold keeps you hooked until the final beat. Finally, Dutch favorite, Navar reimagines ‘Impending Storm’. Sub heavy drums and a skippy percussion framework clever sonic reconstruction, as Navar takes us down a dark, late night trail full of dirty synths and grimey intentions.
Copenhagen duo Baime released the original “The Damned” track way back in 2017, and wow for a ride it’s been for the two Danes since then!
When it was first released, it was Baime’s own label Blindfold Recordings who did the honours as part of a mini compilation called “Night Vision” (definitely worth checking out again – even though it’s already been four years, this compilation still hits). The track became immensely popular very fast and catapulted Jens Christian and Mikael, the two members of Baime, into immediate stardom in the electronic underground scene. Sasha and Nick Warren were among the early adopters, for instance, and many more A-list names joined.
This remix package honours the original track in every way. The arp you hear throughout the track is kept as a trademark sound on all of the remixes, yet there are subtle changes here and there that lift up the track to the sound of today.
Ivory makes “The Damned” light-footed and delicate, like raindrops in a forest, whereas Arude has enveloped the track in a tense battle cry from an exotic land. These two versions are almost each other’s opposites, one sounding like nature and harmony and the other like man-made chaos, both with an exhilarating vigour. Matthias Schuell has chosen a different sound that’s more tech-y and dark club themed, something that sounds like everything we miss from late night clubbing and sweating masses of music-hungry people. Thodoris Triantafillou delivers a summer take of “The Damned” with hints of Balkan.
What unites them all is a love for the original track that really shines through in all four versions. “The Damned” had a good run in 2017 for a number of great reasons, but this remix compilation just goes to show how evergreen a track it really is.
We present next on Beatfreak a very promising Italian producer, Stephan Jolk. In the package there are 5 original tracks and great interpretation by D-Formation and GRAZZE.
Alexandros DJkevingr & Greg Ignatovich return to Lost on You with an absolutely classy piece of music entitled “Black All Black”. The Greek producers, who have been a mainstay in the electronic underground, kick off the EP with this collaboration with George Christou which inspires the name of the EP. A fantastic indie-tinged mix that shines through its melodies while the sensual riffs and vocals sit beautifully on top adding an extra layer of depth. Alexandros and Greg’s signature beat manipulation is prevalent as all sorts of elements come in and out of the ear. It’s perfect for lovers of club beats and for getting in the mood for a big night out.
On the B-side of this EP, the Greek producers present us with “Lemon Party” a deep mix with infectious grooves and intense, enveloping synths. It’s all about groove, melodic vibes and beats that work their magic around Alexandros Djkevingr & Greg Ignatovich’s wonderful key arrangements, which create an irresistible groove while the clever arrangement takes the mind on a journey.
With “Black All Black”, Alexandros Djkevingr & Greg Ignatovich prove that there are no limits, as this beautiful melodic gem takes you into a club-laden melodic embrace that will make you smile. Don’t miss out.
August the 6th meet a great collaboration of talented Uktainian artists and producers Alter, Antai, Boosin and ODYSSAY to deliver their release “Nevermind” followed by Alter and Antai’s breaks mix and Indifferent Guy’s indie dance remix.
These powerful tracks from different genres complement each other and make this album a real banger!
Enjoy!
Soul Revolver is back with us with another summer stomper in the form of this exciting two tracker titled “Sky”!
The main track “Sky” is fuelled by a percussive groove and some lush synth stabs that drive that track along as the vibe evolves with more synth riff coming in the mix to create a perfect terrace vibe.
To round off this release is “Disco Zout” which is a deep and teched-out number with plenty of West-Coast influences with its rolling groove and phat bass line while some chord stabs and pad lines deliver the deeper and hypnotic vibe topped with some male vocal snippets.
Israeli Diploid finally lands on ICONYC with one of the tracks of the year so far, aptly named ‘Way Too Long’. The track has been causing havoc since it’s limited promo release earlier this year and has been played by a wide array of the big boy brigade. ‘Way Too Long’ delivers a slice of positive summer vibes to get you dancing into the sunset.
Diploid starts proceedings excellently, as he lets the encouraging vibes shine through, while we stroll effortlessly through the club inspired melodies on offer, topped only by the outstanding vocals on offer to bring this classy piece of music together. Diploid’s trademark beat manipulation is prevalent, as all manner of elements drift in and out of earshot that culminate in a grand finale for the beat loving club crowd and to get you in the mood for a big night out.
Label favorite Black Space, who needs no introduction created a rework full of tension from the word go, as the atmospheric vibe subtly keeps you moving with warm tinkling sounds, a smooth edge and some nicely effected sounding pieces. We basically have the formula for a bit of a monumental outing. The sparseness is the key here, as their restrained gem works its magic while it plays away, creating a warm glow, creating an air of sophistication. “Essential stuff from Swiss maestro Black Space once again!”
The second remix comes courtesy of Italian producer Reboq, known for his polished melodic techno influenced productions, keeps the ethereal theme of the original alive, as the pulsating bass powers along, before its drum fills and general warmth all combine to do the talking. His transcendent touch up takes the energy levels up a notch, but increases the melancholy with stripped back and lucid elements at the same time, before the luscious pads grace the rework changing the vibe and creating a blanket of warmth that wraps around the effected groove.
With ‘Way Too Long’ Diploid really shows that there’re no boundaries, as this beautiful melodic gem guides you to a full-on club laden, melodic hug of a release that will cause many smiles induced moments! ‘Way Too Long’ sees a worldwide release on August 6th, 2021 via every well-known digital content provider. Not to be missed.
